5 must-go brunch spots in NYC

FYI, I’m a killer for brunch spots, anything when it comes to good food actually. But somehow i tried to narrow down my top five ultimate favorite brunch places in the city.

1. Maison Premiere:

Inspired by hotel lobbies and best restaurants of New York, Paris and New Orleans; Maison Premiere offers top shellfish delicacies, and my favorite dishes: Brioche French toast, Duck confit hash and dirty rice & eggs. Take in mind that cocktails add a nice twist to brunch. I always go for a good mimosa, or a fresh aperol spritz.

Uno de mis lugares favoritos cuando llegué a Williamsburg es Maison Premiere. Es un lugar super lindo para brunchear! Su interiorismo es una combinación cool de Nueva York, Paris y Nuevo Orleans. En cuanto a su comida, el pan francés de ahí, no tiene mamá: esponjoso con una miel de berries deli! Los ostiones son un must; al igual que unas pepitas con pato confitado… y para combinar todo, un perol spritz o un latte no fallan.

2. Sadelle’s:

Ever since I started living in New York, I wanted to try the best bagel & lox. I didn’t settle for any though… tried a few here and there until I went to Sadelle’s in Soho. OMG! everything 2.0 bagel with smoked salmon and their respectable garnishes on a three level plate (quite the tea party display). Finished off sharing a three inch thick French toast, the fluffiest and definitely one of my top fave in the city.

Desde que me mudé a NYC, había querido probar los famosos bagels con salmon ahumado; y a pesar que comí varios por aquí y por allá, el único que me convenció fue el de Sadelle’s. Pedí el bagel “Con todo” asi literal como si fueran taquitos de carne asada… El bagel está horneado con todas las semillas que te imagines, con su respectivo queso crema, salmon ahumado, cebollita morada, pickles y alcaparras. Claramente tenía que terminar el brunch con algo dulce, y que mejor que el french toast de la casa - el mas esponjoso acompañado con una miel de berries.

3. Café Mogador

My top mediterranean breakfast. I always order the same: Middle Eastern Eggs - two eggs any style with hummus, tabouli, arabic salad, and zahatar pita. YUM!

OK, este lugar es INCREIBLE! Un lugar mediterráneo exclusivo para desayunar/brunchear. Toda una experiencia culinaria empezando con un té turco, para calentar motores; luego, los mas famosos huevitos mediterráneos: huevos pochados, hummus, ensalada tabouli, ensalada arabica, y un pan pita recién salido del horno!

4. Oxomoco

Every time I feel homesick, Oxomoco is the go-to brunch place. I started off with café con leche as the best option to start off the day. We ordered all to share to try a bit of everything. You can’t leave without trying the soya marinated tuna tostada, (specially when you have a “cruda”), and chilaquiles. We also ordered the burrito, but wasn’t the biggest fan; though I want to go back for the lamb barbacoa quesadilla. Oh! forgot dessert! It is quite difficult to find pan dulce in the city, so I had to try “the concha” (better than expected).

Este es un lugar bastante parecido a lo que se le llama desayuno casero, o desayuno de cruda. Aquél día empecé la mañana con un delicioso café con leche, mientras esperabamos los platillos para picotear entre todas. La tostada de atún me acordó de Ensenada y sus increíbles mariscos! Después, le seguimos con los chilaquiles de la casa con huevo estrellado (bastante ricos, aunque les faltaba una salsita mas picosa), luego pedimos un “breakfast burrito” que no fui tan fan porque era mas mescolanza que nada - aunque quiero regresar por la barbacoa de borrego! Eso si, la concha de postre no tenia mamá!

5. Sunday in Brooklyn

Burger, Dry-Aged Beef, Caramelized Onions, Worcestershire Aioli, Swiss, B&B Pickles, Potato Bun… YES!! Oh and I couldn’t forget a good matcha latte.

Este fué el primer lugar que identifiqué como spot de desayunos/brunch cerca de donde vivo. Mi hermana fue la que me dijo que tenía ganas de ir, y claramente no repelé. Las dos pedimos lo mismo! algo monchoso pero muy rico: su hamburgesa de la casa, y un matcha latte.
